I provide structured maths tutoring grounded in the strong foundation I developed for myself at GCSE level by achieving a grade 9 in maths, and am continuing into my studies of A-Level Maths and Further Maths. Having recently completed my GCSES just this pass summer, I have an understanding of the pressures students currently feel but also the methods to help them succeed in their exams.
When introducing new topics, I focus on breaking them down into clear, manageable steps ensuring each stage is understood before moving on. By using worked examples and practice questions, I can demonstrate both the method into achieving the marks but also the why. Focusing on the ‘why’ will allow you to build an academic base so that when faced with new information you can process it quicker and understand it, instead of just regurgitating methods and formulas.
I also place emphasis on exam technique, making sure you know how and where questions are designed to trip you up and cause you to lose marks. This is achieved through looking at common errors, and then the steps that can be taken to avoid them.
My prior experience of tutoring primary school students - something I’m still currently engaged in - informs my ability to adjust communication and pace of lessons to a variety of age groups and learning levels. Working with younger students has helped me develop the skill of rephrasing explanations and revising my teaching methods until they connect with the student. As a result I can bring these skills to older students, making sure I’m tutoring with clarity.
