About me

Hi! I’m William, and I’ve been tutoring mathematics for over three years now, working with a range of students under the age of 16. Hi! I’m William, and I’ve been tutoring mathematics for over three years now, working with a range of students under the age of 16. In that time, I’ve had the pleasure of helping six students who were all struggling or lacking confidence in maths, and every single one of them made a huge improvement, not just in their school performance, but in the way they approached the subject as a whole. Some went from failing to passing with flying colours, others moved up sets at school, and all of them started to feel more capable and less anxious about maths. My lessons are designed to be welcoming, supportive, and tailored to each student’s individual needs and learning style. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching to suit the person in front of me, whether they’re visual learners, need more repetition, or just need someone to explain things calmly and clearly.

A typical lesson with me usually starts with a short, friendly warm-up—either a recap of what we learned last time or a quick challenge to get your brain switched on. Then we move into the main topic of the lesson, which I break down into small, manageable steps using simple language, worked examples, and lots of encouragement. I like to check in regularly to make sure you’re understanding everything before moving on. During the lesson, we’ll work through problems together, and I’ll show you not just how to do something, but why it works, because I believe understanding is more powerful than just memorising. After we’ve gone through it together, you’ll have a chance to practise on your own with my guidance, so you can build confidence and independence. I’ll also throw in helpful tips, tricks, and methods that make the topic easier to remember or more intuitive. At the end of each lesson, we do a quick review of what you’ve learned, which helps it stick in your memory, and I’m happy to give extra practice or resources if you want to keep improving in your own time.

I cover a wide range of topics depending on your age and needs, from basic arithmetic, fractions and times tables, to algebra, percentages, word problems, and test or exam preparation. Whether you need to catch up, keep up, or get ahead, I’m here to help. I also support students with their school homework and make sure they’re not just getting the answers, but understanding the methods behind them. My lessons are relaxed, positive, and totally judgment-free, there’s no such thing as a silly question in my sessions. I know that maths can be challenging, and sometimes even scary, but I promise to be patient, clear, and encouraging every step of the way. My goal isn’t just to help you pass tests, it’s to help you feel capable, confident, and maybe even enjoy maths a little more than you expected!
