As a tutor i have some experience in teaching my peers who are also a-level students in maths. I have also tutored children who were at the year 2 and year 3 level. The lessons differ by age but the general basis is trying to work on weaknesses and understanding how evertyhing intertwines and mixes in maths. From the basics of addtion and subtraction, to the more difficult concepts such as calculus, I try to make apparent to students on how everyhing is connected and that understanding this will allow them to manipulate maths at a more advanced level. I tend to start of by giving questions to the students on the topics they are currently learning at school and based on the results, we catagorise what needs the most improvements and what needs the least improvements and revolve the future lessons around that. I offer slide show that explain the concepts that they are weakest at, as well as, interactive tasks in order to apply these principles of maths properly. I also set work, in order for the students to be able to retain the knowledge they have gained in our session. In the start of of every new session i will set questions based on topics we have done in the previous session in order to know if the student is properly progressing through their understanding of these topics. At the end of the sessions i give a run down of how the child is progressing to the parent as well as marks of improvement the child can make.
