My teaching philosophy is that learning should be an active process! I have found that students understand and remember content much better when they actively interact with the content rather than passively memorise ideas. I believe that when teaching it is important to gradually give students the building blocks required to answer a given question, and encourage them to play around with ideas and put those building blocks together on their own, rather than simply tell them the answer. We all think in very unique ways, therefore, we learn in unique ways. This is why I believe teaching should focus on the student, and guide them through the process of uncovering and understanding information in their own unique way rather than simply passing it down to them.
I specialise in Psychology, I am currently in my final year of study at the University of Birmingham, hoping to do a masters in the future. Psychology is a subject which combines knowledge and skills from many areas; learning about maths and statistics, biology and brain function, as well as extensive report writing. This means that I am able to tutor in many other subjects such as Maths, English and Science. On top of this, I have excelled in my GCSE's achieving grades A-B in all of my subjects, with my highest achievement being a grade 9 in English. Furthermore, I have achieved AAB in my A-levels. Content knowledge is of great importance for GCSE and A-level exams, however, to score top marks it is extremely important to know your exam board specification well and answer questions in a skilled way. Having done my exams quite recently, this is something I am very good at. Therefore, as a tutor, I am able to provide help with content as well as exam technique, which are two key ingredients to achieving those top grades.
