I have basic experience in tutoring mathematics at Key Stage 2 level, primarily supporting friends' children, including those with additional needs. Through this work I have developed a flexible, supportive, and child-centred approach that focuses on both academic progress and confidence building.
I always tailor my tutoring to the individual needs, abilities, and learning styles of each student. I understand that some learners find it challenging to maintain focus for extended periods, particularly those with additional needs. To support this, I create a positive and engaging learning environment that includes structured "brain breaks," such as short movement based activities of the learners choice. These breaks help students re-focus, manage their energy levels, and remain engaged throughout the session.
I am confident in my ability to explain mathematical concepts in ways that are accessible and easy to understand. I adapt my explanations to suit each learner using a variety of teaching methods including, visual aids, drawings, physical movements, and practical examples. I enjoy teaching the reasoning behind equations, ensuring students understand why methods work rather than memorising the steps to get to the answer.
My approach encourages curiosity and active participation helping the students develop problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of maths. By creating a fun and supportive atmosphere, and adapting my teaching methods to suit an individuals needs, I aim to make maths more approachable and enjoyable while simultaneously helping students progress at their own pace.
My goal is to support every learner to build confidence, understanding, and enjoyment in maths through personalised teaching strategies.
