As a qualified high-school music teacher now working as a self-employed instrumental and theory teacher with many years experience, I love teaching one-to-one and small groups so I can tailor the learning to the learner, find out what makes you tick and how to best help you achieve your goals whatever they may be. I hope to empower all learners to guide their own learning and find their own intrinsic motivation.

Whether you want to learn about music theory for fun, to support your music making on another instrument, to help with your GCSE or A-level study, or to pass a Graded music theory exam, or even if you have never read any traditional notation at all before and want to start reading music, I can help. Studying music theory makes so much sense for every musician and can impact your performance and composition skills massively.

Lessons can include creative performance, composition and improvisation exercises to make the learning more engaging and memorable. There will be some listening and written work and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, interact, practice embed and reinforce your knowledge.
Depending on your goals and level lessons usually cover anything and everything about learning to read notated music, learning about rhythm and pulse, pitch, keys and scales, western classical instruments, cadences, intervals, transposition, harmonisation, composition. I often use music that the learner is interested in to demonstrate new concepts and embed new knowledge.

Options of individual lessons from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours. Small group lessons can be up to 2 hours long.
