I like to see what each individual student is like and what works for them. Everyone is different and whilst one method may work for one student that does not mean that it will work for everyone. Depending on the level they start at, getting an idea of where they are at is a good place to start. This is done with both oral and written exercises. A brief background of themselves is also desirable to be able to tailor lessons to each person.

I like to work alongside students, having them let me know how they work best and what they would like to see within lessons. This allows everyone to get a tailored experience and get the most out of their lessons. I have had tutoring myself, and have found that the one size fits all model just was not working for me so I aim to change that. I also don't believe in having too much content per lesson as this can cause panic and too much information is not always beneficial. Working at a pace that works for the student is what I aim for so that they can remain confident whilst also progressing.

Checking in with them is also crucial to see if anything needs to be changed, or if they are feeling overwhelmed. This allows me to change things if necessary but also gauge how they are feeling and if there is anything I can change to improve this. It makes for a much better relationship between us, and allows the student to progress happily.
