Trica Burgess

I am a former Lecturer and Tutor with over ten years established experience of working with educational institutions, colleges and universities. This experience has led me to become practiced in developing students’ knowledge and understanding through diverse teaching and learning strategies. Working as Associate Lecturer in the Further Education sector enabled me to establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students felt safe, confident and valued.

For my personal teaching style, I use a combined approach, offering flexibility to lesson plans as it is of paramount importance to identify the needs of the learner in the first instance, then to develop (and adapt ongoing) materials to meet those needs. I can produce a structered workbook for each lesson if the learner would benefit from this teaching style, plus my lessons will include lots of exposure/full immersion of the langauge/subject but at a pace the learner feels comfortable with. I will also find a good balance between teacher-talking time and student-talking time. I use a variety of tools to help the learner including presentations, worksheets, gap-filled excerises, flashcards, film, story telling, photos and realia.

Above all, I am highly motivated in delivering teaching objectives and fostering the development of the individual.
