I enjoy teaching and engaging with people to help them understand something. I prefer fun and interactive lessons, and therefore adapted that teaching method. My classes would generally begin with either a recap of what we did the previous lesson in the form of a quiz, or a tricky question to try, using what he had learnt so far. That would go for around 5 to 10 minutes. Then, we would start covering new content related to the topic, going through slides I would have made, to help show the child the method, maybe even using a video from youtube. After this, I will go through some worked examples of practice questions to help them visualise the method, and properly cement it in their mind. For the remainder of the lesson, I will give them some practice questions to try individually. If the child is stuck on a question, I will be there to prompt them and help them reach the right answer, preferably on their own account. After the end of each session, I would be happy to write the parent a note about their child's progress. Every couple of weeks, at the end of each topic, I will give the child a mini mock assessment to complete, to see how confident they are with the topic, working in exam conditions. I would like to build a connection with the child I am tutoring, to make them comfortable and bring out the best in them. I passed my 11+ and SATs exams very well, which opened many doors for me. I would like this to happen to the child I tutor, so I will absolutely put in a lot of effort into this. I have previously tutored family friends, but this would be my first time tutoring privately.
