My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, confidence level and goals. I usually begin by finding out which topics the student feels comfortable with and which areas they find more difficult, so that lessons can focus on what will be most useful to them. I also take into account any upcoming tests, homework or particular areas they would like to improve.
During lessons, I explain concepts clearly and break more challenging problems into smaller, manageable steps. I then work through examples with the student before giving them the opportunity to try similar questions independently. I offer guidance and prompts where needed rather than simply giving the answer straight away, as I want students to develop the confidence to work through problems themselves.
For GCSE and A-Level students, I place a strong emphasis on exam-style questions, problem solving and exam technique. This includes helping students recognise what a question is asking, identify the relevant topic or method, organise their working clearly and understand where marks are awarded. We can also revisit weaker topics and build up to more challenging questions gradually.
I aim to keep lessons relaxed, supportive and interactive so that students feel comfortable asking questions, discussing their thought process and making mistakes without feeling under pressure. I believe mistakes are an important part of learning and can often help identify exactly where extra explanation or practice is needed.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes long and are delivered online. I can teach in either Welsh or English, depending on the student’s preference. My rates are £20 per hour for GCSE Mathematics and £25 per hour for A-Level Mathematics. I am also happy to adapt the structure of lessons over time as the student progresses and their priorities change.
