Tomi Adepegba

Over 4 years ago during the middle of studying for my astrophysics degree, I began tutoring for the first time and fell in love with it. Since then, I have personally helped over 100 people across the nation learn and master subjects that they were once not confident with. Having been through GCSE and A-level exams, I understand the perspective of a student in the position of trying to achieve good results and can relate to difficulties in these subjects. For anyone struggling to understand concepts in Science and Maths, I’m able break down big ideas and better explain them in a way that consolidates understanding. From a young age, I have also been largley self-taught in playing the Acoustic Guitar and the Piano. People often ask me; how do you get good at something that seems difficult to do? I always say it’s a delicate mixture of practice and patience.

Every student I've ever engaged with has always taught me the value and the power of listening. Over the years, I've been developing and improving my ability to sincerely hear the student's point of view. Each student is unique - hailing from different backgrounds, cultures and speaking different languages; each one cannot be approached the same way. I've come to acknowledge how a certain way of explaining an idea or a particular concept to a student may not equally be as effective when explained the same way to another student. The ability to select the right words and phrases when throwing complex ideas across has been instilled in me since I began tutoring as a profession. Through trial, error, and with a growth oriented mindset, I have gained valuable experience which has kept me continually adjusting my approach to each student, helping me tailor the lessons to their specific needs.
