I usually approach students from a more basic and fundamental point of view, using teaching methods I have previously employed. By breaking down questions or topics into smaller manageable chunks they are easier to digest and absorb.
By mastering the basics, students can go on to achieve more using the same reason of logic or thinking, and start applying them onto tackling larger problems. This will come along to them as a natural response once they get used to the idea of rethinking mathematics in a way they can comprehend.
I will start not from the year of study of the student but from the year of study they understand. No student can build their knowledge of mathematics on a shaky foundation, and I aim to fix that level of understanding, to build the foundations for a solid grasp at the subject.
I am personally a relaxed tutor, and I aim to correct or guide through soft words and mutual understanding of what needs to be done and how, we, the student and the teacher can come together to solve them. Harsh words will only antagonise the student and perhaps scar them from future education, which I wish to avoid, as mathematics is a powerful tool for anyone who wishes to survive in this modern society.
As I have previously tutored for more than two years for students up to middle school, I do understand the situation they are in and how their train of thought is like. I hope I can use this experience as a stepping stone to guide my future teaching, and empathise more with the student whenever possible.
I am also a current Get Further Tutor at Hopwood Hall College, tutoring GCSE level Maths for students struggling with mathematics at this level
