I do not use esoteric languages when teaching English as a foreign language. I like to be simple and short, grammar translation is part of my format in teaching English, sentence and sound pattern. How to identify a sentence and also the rules guiding the sentences. The different types of sentence that we have. How to differentiate between a phrase and a clause, how to identify the sounds we have in English.
The rules of grammar would also be identified, how to identify a grammar in a sentence and how to also use grammar in a sentence. We also have the audio method which is regarded as the direct method which involves thinking and communicating in English, the communication between the teacher and the students is strictly in English and the students are barred from using their native language. This way helps everyone to work on their speaking language and try to improve it step by step. Direct method was developed by studying how children learn their native language. Think about how you learn to speak your first language. You listened to adults and older children then started trying out language, using trial and error, then action and reaction, to develop your speaking ability.
We have the audio lingual method which is also regarded as the army method. In the audio lingual method, the teacher is regarded as the role model to the students. The language teaching starts with communication, the objective language is the main language; the students primary language isn't utilized.
