My lessons are structured yet flexible, and always adapted to the individual needs of the student. At the beginning, we identify the student’s goals, whether that means preparing for GCSE or undergraduate coursework, strengthening essay writing, developing analytical skills, or gaining a deeper understanding of art history, film history, and film theory. This allows each lesson to be focused, supportive, and relevant to what the student wants to achieve.
Each session combines explanation, discussion, and practical analysis. Rather than simply delivering information, I guide students through artworks, films, movements, and theoretical concepts together. We might analyse a painting, break down a film scene, or explore a key theoretical idea, learning how to interpret visual and cinematic language in a thoughtful and critical way. I encourage students to actively participate by sharing their ideas, asking questions, and developing their own interpretations. This approach helps build confidence and makes the learning process more engaging and memorable.
My lessons are conversational and interactive rather than traditional one-way lectures. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas and expressing their thoughts. Art and film are subjects that benefit from discussion and curiosity, so I encourage students to think critically and engage with the material rather than simply memorising it.
Alongside my teaching approach, I bring over five years of experience in art, design, and film. I hold a BA in Film and an MA in Illustration and Animation, which allows me to combine academic knowledge with a creative perspective. My goal is to make lessons stimulating, accessible, and enjoyable while helping students develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills that will support them in their studies.
