I teach students using techniques and strategies in creative writing genres. I question more, and students share their opinions and perspectives. Students learn to write descriptive, narrative, autobiography, persuasive, articles and different variations of poetry e.g. Acrostic / Alphabetical / Free Verse during my course.
Each session is for 60 min and I believe 36 sessions is enough to learn how to become a confident writer. I provide a powerful vocabulary book to each student, in a PDF format. The book comprises of figures of speech, idioms, proverbs, strong beginnings, an array of colours, and much more.
Furthermore, it's not good to spoon-feed answers to students because they already have a vivid imagination. Hence, it's better when they independently pen their own thoughts and perspectives. For example, in essay writing, I layout pointers based on each paragraph and then the students write their own answers, after a brainstorming session.
My students type or handwrite their work and upload it for feedback. I assess the students based on merit cards.
At the end of the English course, all my students write a story or poem based on any of the genres taught during the sessions, on a theme, and then I publish their work on Amazon.
I believe students are focused and not distracted during my sessions because they have to complete the work in a time limit.
English is a skill that is taught for college and careers. Hence students become confident with the English Language while writing and speaking.
