I have been lucky enough to spend time and work in some of the top ranked university’s in the world. But having come to university in my mid 20’s I had a career before and after and not just in teaching. So have a wealth of real world knowledge of academic and industrial science world and use this to show how the basics are used in the real world. I tailor my lessons to the student so we work with their strengths to make sure they are working to their potential. Conversations and conversational teaching as well as problem solving and failure are a key part of learning and use them a lot. I have taught both science and maths so I teach them together as a lot of issues we see arise are form misunderstanding in other subjects. My students need to take ownership of their learning and not be a passive and take a leap forward and decide what they need instead of me telling them what they need. I will use YouTube, books, ai and everything in between to show that learning continuous through life and not just for school. But a good foundation is easy to build upon and they can learn anything if they set their mind to it. I work at their pace and I concentrate on mastery rather than a tick box that a topic covered and then move on. I like to instil a love of learning and also the ability to look at a problem and think of all the ways to solve not just the simple one.
