I work in dubbing and advertising, so I'm doing translations and dubbing all the time.
The idea of teaching the language the way I do, is so that they learn it but above all they understand it and can even laugh at a joke in Spanish.
To be able to speak it in a useful way and as people really speak it.
It's no use to say “El gato esta en la mesa” if you want to ask for a street or the address of a bar.
