I've been a freelance PSHE teacher to 15-years. During this time I've also taught a variety of subjects as a cover teacher at several secondary schools. One school asked me to do 1 to 1 support work with some of their more vulnerable students. I'm more used to teaching in person, but am familiar with teaching online too. The dynamics of my lessons vary depending on the subject matter. Generally they are relaxed but professional, engaging & encouraging. My eclectic background has proved useful when teaching a variety of lessons, relating & linking real world experiences to lesson learning outcomes when necessary to help student's understanding. I use PowerPoint to deliver most lessons supported with Word documents & worksheets that can be edited & completed alongside the lesson - a record of what was covered & source for revision. Videos & images where relevant break the lesson up & help with engagement to highlight learning outcomes. Q & A & discussions are also teaching techniques I like to use. I enjoy researching information alongside a student as a lesson takes place, helping them develop critical thinking skills & confidence in problem solving. Success & progress for me is what a student has confidently learnt, rather than how much. As a football coach, there's no point in coaching a complex drills if a player isn't confident kicking a ball. My approach to teaching, especially in the 1 to 1 support work was the same. Progress builds with confidence & I get job satisfaction playing my part in building a student's confidence..
