Sessions usually follow a clear routine so students know what to expect and feel confident. We focus on the exact skills the student needs, which may include phonics and decoding, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. I draw on my experience leading Fresh Start phonics, Rapid Plus, and Reading Plus interventions in secondary schools to make sure lessons are targeted and effective.
I’ve taught whole-group and small-group literacy interventions to students aged 11–18, so I’m experienced in working with reluctant or low-confidence readers. Lessons are practical and paced appropriately for older learners — never babyish — and I adapt activities to keep students engaged and motivated.
My aim is not just to improve reading skills, but to build confidence and help students access the wider secondary curriculum more independently.
