What to Expect from My Maths Lessons
With over 10 years of experience tutoring students from Year 3 to Year 9 across UK schools — and more than 20,000 one-to-one sessions delivered — I bring a deep understanding of how children learn maths at every stage of their school journey.
Lesson Format:
Each session is fully tailored to the individual student. I begin by identifying areas of strength and where support is needed, using diagnostic questions and reviewing prior work. Lessons typically start with a quick warm-up or review, followed by targeted teaching and guided problem-solving. I always end with a short recap to reinforce key learning points and set the student up for success in future sessions.
Content & Curriculum:
My lessons are built around the UK National Curriculum, covering everything from number fluency and times tables to fractions, algebra, geometry, and reasoning skills. Whether your child is preparing for SATs, catching up after a confidence dip, or needs stretching beyond the classroom curriculum, I’ll structure lessons to match their goals and pace of learning.
Experience with Special Educational Needs:
I have extensive experience working with students with special educational needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and autism. I adapt my teaching style, pace, and materials to meet each child’s specific learning needs. My approach is patient, structured, and supportive — with an emphasis on building confidence and reducing anxiety around maths. I believe that with the right support and strategies, every child can make meaningful progress and even come to enjoy maths.
Lesson Dynamics:
My sessions are calm, clear, and interactive. I create a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and thinking out loud. I use visuals, step-by-step methods, and real-life examples to keep things engaging and relatable. Above all, I aim to build confidence and foster a positive relationship with maths.
