Having tutored maths for the past 5 years, I’ve learned that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to learning. I never teach a topic exactly the same way twice, because every student has different strengths, challenges and ways of understanding things.

I consistently adapt each session to suit the individual student, whether that means slowing down and breaking a difficult concept into smaller steps, finding a different way to explain it, or challenging them with more difficult questions to build confidence and push their understanding further.

Each session starts with a blank whiteboard — giving us a fresh space to work through whatever the student needs. We’ll tackle questions together, working through each step carefully and making sure the reasoning behind the answer is fully understood, rather than simply memorising a method.

I’m able to support students across the full range of abilities, from those who are working towards achieving a pass and building the confidence to get there, through to students aiming for the very top grades and looking to push towards a Grade 9. Wherever a student is starting from, we can work towards clear, realistic goals and build their skills from there.

A key part of my tutoring is using genuine exam questions, rather than relying solely on textbook exercises. This allows us to practise applying topics in the way they actually appear in exams, identify common mistakes, and develop the confidence to tackle unfamiliar questions. For students aiming for the highest grades, we can also focus on the more challenging questions where careful wording, problem-solving and combining different topics can make all the difference.

My aim is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why, develop their confidence, and eventually feel comfortable tackling questions independently.
