Sophie Collins

I am an experienced private SEND teacher and tutor with over four years of experience providing one-to-one support to children and teenagers with a wide range of learning needs, abilities and educational goals. I have also recently completed my master’s degree in Psychology, further developing my understanding of learning, development, neurodiversity and individual differences.

My teaching is always tailored to the individual student. I take time to understand their attitude towards learning, their personal goals and the approaches they respond to best. I believe tutoring should not only help students understand and retain information, but also build their confidence and help them develop a more positive relationship with learning. For this reason, I like to discuss learning goals with both the student and their parent or carer.

I have experience teaching English, Psychology and foundational Maths across a range of ages and abilities, including supporting students with GCSE English Language resits. My methods can include hands-on and interactive activities, structured repetition, guided questioning, practice exam questions and short assessments to check understanding. However, every lesson is adapted to the student rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

My work as a private SEND teacher has strengthened my ability to create patient, supportive and accessible lessons for students who may struggle with attention, confidence, traditional classroom teaching or other barriers to learning.

I primarily offer online tutoring through Zoom or Microsoft Teams. I may also be able to provide in-person tutoring within the Guildford area, depending on the location and travel arrangements.
