I generally like to set out a lesson as 50/50 - half from me, half from you. I create tailored content, based on your learning needs and my experience in teaching, HE and research, and unpack concepts accessibly to you. I like to integrate references to contemporary culture, media, art into my teaching to add dimension and connect things that seem abstract to things that may be more tangible. I like to teach in a way that balances sharing my knowledge in subjects and developing a comfortable relationship with learners, mutual communication, towards our common goal of you improving!
That’s the 50% from me - for the rest from you, I design tasks that probe your thinking further, identify any gaps that need patching in your learning, and allow room for you to get purposeful, productive feedback from me on what you are doing / understanding well and where you could be improving. This is important for both of us; so that you know what stage you are at in your learning journey, and so that I can reflect on and tailor future content to make sure your progress moves forward towards your desired goal.
I hold a BSocSc (First-Class) and MA (Distinction) as well as Dean’s Award for Achievement in Politics and International Relations from my time at the University of Manchester. I also have experience teaching at an Academy at secondary and Sixth Form level, conducting research in the social sciences and sociology at university, and am currently lecturing in social sciences and research methods. This background - as well as working at a policy think tank currently - positions me well to support your development from a place of expertise.
