I have two years of tutoring and mentoring experience. During that experience, I learned how unique each student is and that there is no one-size-fits-all to tutoring or learning methods. Each student is different and I like to showcase that both in my approach to tutoring and in the work each student produces with my help. I have a bachelor's degree in Art History and Philosophy and am currently working on my master's in Art History. Most of my work is in argumentative and research-based writing, and that happens to be what I love most to help students with. In my tutoring experience, I helped students with their writing and helped them feel capable of writing an essay. Formatting, grammar, and outlining are important, but finding the right words to put in that structure can often feel so much more difficult. In my work and my journey in higher education, I have found that creativity is the key to critical thinking. Dynamic, creative, and even slightly incorrect questions are where I like to start with students to build confidence in their thought processes and their ability to say something interesting and reflective of themselves in their writing. I also have experience in exam preparation. Study skills should also cater to each student, and making it feel less boring or helping a student realize that they are not bad at studying but using techniques that do not work for them is a major part of my method. So many students feel unconfident or inadequate in their learning skills, and I am here to help them find that they already have everything they need with a little help.
