I place a strong emphasis on clarity, confidence, and independent thinking. Rather than simply giving answers, I teach students how to approach questions, structure their ideas, and express themselves effectively.
A typical lesson might include:
- Focused work on a specific skill (e.g. comprehension, essay structure, or creative writing)
- Guided practice with targeted feedback
- Breaking down texts in a clear, accessible way so students fully understand them
- Exam technique and question practice for GCSE students
My lessons are carefully structured and tailored to each student, to ensure that every session is both productive and engaging. I begin by identifying each student’s strengths, gaps, and learning style. From there, I create a personalised approach. This can include building core reading skills at primary level or developing high-level essay writing and analysis for GCSE.
Academically, I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE English Language and Literature and an A in A-Level English Literature. I have an in-depth understanding of what examiners are looking for, allowing me to confidently guide students through both foundational skills and more advanced literary analysis. Additionally, with a background in Sociology from the University of Birmingham, I bring strong analytical and writing skills into my teaching, helping students go beyond surface-level understanding and develop more thoughtful, well-structured responses. I also believe that my genuine adoration for the subject brings a level of joy and positive energy to each of my lessons. It truly is a pleasure for me to teach English, and I hope it will be a pleasure for students to learn from me too.
My approach is joyful, patient, and encouraging, while still maintaining high expectations to ensure consistent progress. Over time, my students not only improve their grades but also become more confident, independent learners!
