Shiori Uebayashi

I’m Shiori, a native Japanese speaker currently living in the UK. I have a Bachelor’s degree, teaching qualifications, and experience as a high school English teacher in Japan. I have also taught Japanese online through Preply, where I worked with students from different countries and supported learners with a variety of goals and language levels.

I believe that learning a language should be practical, enjoyable, and tailored to each individual. Every student has different reasons for learning Japanese, whether it’s for travel, work, university, JLPT preparation, anime and manga, or simply out of personal interest. I take the time to understand each student’s goals and create lessons that are engaging, structured, and relevant to their needs.

My lessons are flexible and can include:

* Grammar explained in a clear and simple way
* Pronunciation and natural expressions
* Reading and writing (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji)
* Business Japanese and polite expressions
* JLPT preparation
* Japanese culture and customs

As someone who has learned English and now lives and works in the UK, I understand how challenging it can be to learn a foreign language. I know how important it is to feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. My goal is to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students can build confidence and enjoy learning.

I use a variety of materials depending on each student’s level, including conversation topics, articles, textbooks, role plays, and personalised exercises. I also provide feedback after lessons and adjust future lessons based on your progress.
