Having taught in a variety of schools - across English and Drama - I have developed an informed, engaging and personalised approach that empowers students through helping them to find joy in the subject being studied. Typically, a lesson would begin with a warm-up (ideal for setting the tone, as well as allowing me to understand the student’s ability in the topic) and then we would build skills to enable us to tackle question practice, skills-based exercises and/or informed discussion.
I believe in adopting a variety of stimuli, rather than simply reading a text and writing about it. From visual aids to hands-on exercises, it is vital that the subject feels tangible and clear. This means I accommodate what my student responds best to, and plan lessons accordingly.
With experience in Drama, it is my passion to bring a text to life, and this happens in English, too. This does not necessarily mean that we will act: it means that we will focus on understanding how a text can be made ‘real’ - whether a student is reading a classic text or writing their own persuasive speech.
For anyone wishing to be tutored in Drama, however, I am happy to help dissect texts, rehearse lines, direct acting and provide discussion.
Lastly, I am open to assisting university students with assignments/exams, also. Whether this is analysing texts, creating an assignment structure, discussing topics/texts or reading your work before it is graded. Any information on your modules would be necessary to have in advance, though.
