Mathematics can be fun, interesting and meaningful.. I have great compassion with my students, especially those who are having a hard time understanding and engaging with Mathematics. My compassion made me decide to gain many experiences that further my ability to understand pupils’ struggles and ensure that I am always passionate to help them succeed. Mathematics can be shown as a very useful and meaningful subject within day to day life, and I believe pupils should be shown these uses of Maths through real life connections. Breaking topics into small and easier to digest chunks is a key aspect in my approach to tutoring. I do this so that my students can understand and consolidate the information they learned. I also like to merge the various topics within Maths to recall their memory, making sure to test their application of the knowledge in the process. Using all the learning methods to create long time memory is more effective; listening and observing the information, modelling the problem solving, using diagrams and shapes to reach visual memory and writing within controlled independent problem solving. I found out the key to tackle difficult problems is introducing the information by small and accessible chunks, than scaffolding gradually to gain confidence.
