Hi, I'm Sean. I got a grade 9 in GCSE English Language and an 8 in English Literature, and I currently tutor KS3 and GCSE English at a tuition centre in East London. I'm also applying to read Law at Cambridge, so close reading, clear argument and precise writing are things I work on every day, not just in lessons.

How my lessons work:

In our first session, I'll look at a recent piece of your work or a past paper answer to find out exactly where you're losing marks. From there, every lesson has a clear focus, whether that's language analysis, structuring a Paper 1 answer, creative writing, or building a strong argument for Paper 2.

A typical lesson starts with a short recap, then moves into one skill we break down together. You'll practise it straight away on real exam-style questions and get honest, specific feedback, not just "good job". I'll show you what a top-grade answer looks like and explain why it earns the marks, so you can do it yourself in the exam.

For students closer to exams, we'll work on timed practice so you get used to writing well under pressure. For younger students, the focus is on building confidence with reading and writing so GCSE doesn't feel like a jump later on.

What to expect from me:

I'm patient, organised and I remember what it's like to sit these exams, because I did it recently. I'll give you small, manageable things to work on between lessons and keep track of your progress so you can see yourself improving. In addition, I'll ensure lessons aren't monotonous and keep things interesting.
