As all teachers we follow the national curriculum. My aim as a teacher is to allow my students to become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, to be able to solve problems etc.

I will go through all basic topics in math to ensure my pupils have secured their foundational knowledge before moving onto ‘complex’ knowledge.

I like to make my lessons enjoyable so I tend to add in many activities for the students to complete as a class. In the first 20mins I introduce and teach the topic, I also do practise examples. Through this I am able to know if my students have understood the topic. If not, then I will continue to do practise examples with them as a whole class. I will not rush my students just so I can cover all the content. Once the students have a better understanding I like them to work independently or in groups of two. This allows the students to practise what they have learnt.

At this stage I use formative assessment. I identify which student has understood the topic and which student has not understood it.

In EYFS, when the students needed to do their work after lesson I would spend extra time with the students who did not understand the topic. I would explain it in a different way. I noticed through this that all the students just needed was extra 1-1 support and a different way of approaching the learning.
