Samuel Smith

I have experience working in two primary schools in Lanzarote, Spain, as an English Language Assistant. As well as this I have experience in private English tutoring with multiple clients in Lanzarote. I have a Bachelor's degree as a Master of Spanish from the University of Edinburgh and, having lived in Spain for two years (first in Madrid and then in Lanzarote), I am highly proficient in the Spanish language, in both a conversational and professional environment. I understand cultural nuances between Spanish and English and so have excellent localisation skills, allowing me to teach my students how to communicate in a natural and fluid manner in their target language.

I aim to create a comfortable and inviting learning environment in my lessons. I like to keep the lesson dynamic and engaging through the use of various teaching formats; language games, vocab memory games, role-play scenarios, a mix of written and verbal tasks. I pride myself on first and foremost creating a personal connection with my clients as I can say from experience, as both a teacher and student of language, that one of the most important aspects of language learning is creating a space in which students feel comfortable to make mistakes, without condemnation from their teacher. Remember, making mistakes is the most effective way to learn!

Another aspect of my teaching which I pride myself in is the understanding that the most effective learning methods vary from student to student. Depending on the client, I create tailor-made lesson plans focusing on visual, auditory, reading/writing, or kinesthetic teaching methods to best suit the student's most effective learning style.
