I worked with the Berlitz language school's English camp program in Germany for 16 years, thereby gaining a great deal of teaching experience. I mainly taught kids classes of up to 12 students, between the ages of 7-17. I also did some private one to one tuition in Berlin.

Lessons in the camps were mainly engaged with getting the learner to speak and develop their confidence in using the language. This was done through concentration on particular grammar points, using a combination of games, vocabulary tasks, discussions, individual and group tasks and creative challenges. Depending on the level of the group, I would also set the kids some written tasks. I learned to cater my lessons to the requirements of a range of age groups and abilities.

Along with my experience with young learners, I feel confident that I could offer engaging classes for adults, by adjusting my lessons accordingly. I deliver varied, fun lessons that encourage the learner to speak and develop their confidence in using the language. I also have the patience that comes of having myself learned another language fluently, so that I recognise some of the pitfalls learners may experience. My lessons can be catered to the needs of the individual student and pitched at a level that is challenging, but not overwhelming.

As well as my teaching experience, I have always been engaged with language through a great love of literature. I have enjoyed various forms of writing since childhood and, as well as bits and pieces of creative writing and the publication of a smattering of articles over the years, I recently released an album of my own songs. I would be delighted to be given the chance to use this love of language to help learners get a better grasp of my mother tongue.
