Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students from a wide range of countries, cultures, age groups, and language abilities. This experience has enabled me to adapt my teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, interests, and goals, ensuring that each student receives personalised support and feels confident in their learning journey. I started out in Cambodia 2018, moving to Russia 2019 and then working with refugees from Afghanistan on the AARAP in Dorset. I while working online privately and in school in the UK.
A key part of my approach is using books and stories to help students develop vocabulary, reading comprehension, and a genuine enjoyment of reading. Through guided discussions, comprehension activities, and question-based games, students build their understanding of language in a natural and engaging way. These activities also provide opportunities to practise conversational English, progressing from simple exchanges to more complex discussions that encourage critical thinking and confidence in speaking.
For students preparing for examinations, I use the Cambridge English as a Second Language curriculum and resources to develop the skills required for success. Lessons can focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with targeted practice designed to build both competence and exam confidence.
Whether teaching groups in a classroom setting or delivering one-to-one online lessons, I create engaging and interactive learning experiences tailored to each learner's needs. My lessons focus not only on language acquisition but also on developing communication skills, confidence, and independence. By combining creativity, patience, and a supportive learning environment, I help students feel comfortable taking risks with language and making meaningful progress towards their goals.
