I like to centre my lessons around conversation, ensuring they have a relaxed pace which I believe best facilitates language learning. I took a module based around language learning during my postgraduate linguistics studies, and learned from this about the basic mechanism we have in our brains that allowed us to learn language as a child. It is around this that I model my approach. This means focusing on context, prioritising speaking and listening and making sure that learning takes place through discovery. Moreover, as a language learner, I have experimented with different ways of learning a language, and I like to apply my practical first hand experience of trying to learn a language with what I learned academically and through my TEFL qualification. Most of all, I think that learning languages is a really fun thing to do and opens up the learner to a whole new world of communication, and even a whole new way of interacting with the world around them. Therefore, I make sure that my lessons are centred around the interests and goals of my student, to best connect language learning with the joys they already have in their lives.
