Having taught for many years in Europe, Africa and Oceania, I am knowledgeable in teaching and learning activities that are high value, interactive and which make learning meaningful. Lessons start with either identifying or reviewing academic goals. The lesson will involve active learning, with screen sharing, on-screen annotations, and educational resources (like Kahoot or Quizzet) while. To assess understanding and develop independence, homework is set to practice the content or skill learnt. As the tutor, I will track the achievement of learning goals in our lessons.
I believe the qualities that make me a good teacher are: being able to explain in different ways; being able to laugh at myself and at jokes; understanding that learning is a life-long process; and being thoroughly prepared. What makes me a great teacher, are my subject knowledge and experience.
I have taught all around the world over the past 25 years. My experience is mainly teaching the UK National Curriculum in Key Stages One and Two in public schools. However, I also have extensive experience of Inquiry-based learning (like the IPC or IEB) in international schools, as well working in specialist programmes for both gifted and talented and neuro-diverse students in a top state school for learners with diverse needs. My subject strengths are Literacy, Numeracy and Science. My weakness is over-planning for lessons!
In my spare time, I love to read, travel, scuba dive and study. I am busy completing my Masters in Science (Educational Technology) at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
