Sagi Burton – Coaching Values, Aims and Objectives

I am a player-centred coach with over 25 years of experience in the professional football industry, spanning a playing career of more than 320 senior appearances and a developing coaching career within the academy system. My experiences as a professional footballer, international player, mentor and academy coach have shaped a coaching philosophy built upon empathy, accountability, communication and continuous improvement.

My core coaching value is to create an environment where young players feel challenged, supported and empowered to maximise their potential. I believe effective coaching extends beyond technical and tactical development; it should also foster resilience, self-awareness, confidence and strong personal values. Every player develops at a different rate, therefore I aim to understand each individual and provide tailored support that helps them progress both on and off the pitch.

Currently, as a Cell Lead Coach within the Academy at , I have responsibility for leading coaching provision, supporting staff development, managing player reviews and contributing to the long-term development of academy players. My role has strengthened my leadership, organisational and communication skills while providing valuable experience working within multidisciplinary environments.

My objective is to develop technically proficient, tactically intelligent and psychologically robust players capable of progressing through the academy pathway into senior football. I am committed to creating engaging learning environments that encourage decision-making, creativity and ownership of development. Alongside player development, I strive to support and mentor fellow coaches, promoting collaboration and a culture of continual learning.

Professionally, I am committed to lifelong development through formal education, reflective practice and practical experience. As a UEFA B Licence coach and participant in the Professional Player to Coach Scheme, my ambition is to continue progressing through advanced coaching qualifications and leadership opportunities. Long term, I aim to become a recognised leader in player development, specialising in supporting diverse learners and helping young people achieve their full potential within football and beyond..
