My lessons focus on nailing the basics and different fundamental of math issues that students struggle with at school because they don't understand the basic principles of the problem at hand.

I begin by getting a sound understanding of the pupil's capabilities by providing some questions for them to answer, some at their age-group level, some below their age-group level, and some above their age-group level in order to gain a thorough understanding of where the pupil's abilities lie.

From their I will structure a plan for the student to follow, starting with the basics depending on where their abilities lie from the starting questions. From their I will provide questions for them to complete each week between sessions so I can see they've implemented what they've learnt during the session.

Additionally, just before the end of the session, I will ask the pupil to answer a few questions in front of me using full equations and explaining their reasoning on the method they've chosen to solve the problem at hand that I've given them.

Depending on how long the sessions are and how often the student has them, different levels of homework will be set per week.

For example:

If a pupil has two sessions a week, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday, then 3 questions a day will be set from Monday - Friday for me to check again on Saturday, completion of homework requires parental supervision to ensure child is performing correctly with every-step. If there are mistakes, I will address them on the Saturday when I receive the homework and explain to the student where they need to improve, adapting their homework for the next week to help them improve.
