I believe the best teaching starts with understanding the person you are teaching. Before planning lessons, I take time to understand what the student wants to achieve, where they are currently struggling and what approach helps them learn best.
I don’t expect every student to learn in the same way. Some students need a concept explained step by step, while others understand it better through examples or by working through questions themselves. I’m happy to change my approach when something isn’t working and find another way of explaining it.
During lessons, I encourage students to ask questions and talk through their ideas. I use examples and practice to make sure they have understood the concept rather than simply memorised an answer. I also like students to explain their thinking, as this helps me see exactly where they may need further support.
For GCSE students, I work on both understanding the subject and knowing how to approach an exam question. This includes looking at questions together, developing answers and practising how to communicate ideas clearly. I have helped many students achieve A*s and understand the difference that good exam preparation can make.
I also work with ESL students and can help with speaking, writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary, depending on what the student needs.
My aim is simple: to help students feel comfortable with English, understand what they are learning and realise what they are capable of achieving and achieve their goals.
I want every student to leave lessons feeling more confident in their abilities and motivated to keep improving.
