Ruth Fildes

My lessons are designed to give young artists the confidence, skills and curiosity to develop their own creative voice. Each session blends clear, structured teaching with plenty of space for experimentation, so students feel supported while also learning to think independently. I introduce techniques step by step—drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture or digital approaches—while always encouraging students to explore ideas, make decisions and reflect on their work.

Lessons typically begin with a short warm-up activity to build observational skills, followed by a focused project tailored to the student’s age, interests and ability. I use demonstrations, visual examples and guided practice to help students understand both the “how” and the “why” behind artistic processes. Throughout the session, I offer constructive feedback that is positive, specific and designed to help students grow in confidence.

I bring many years of experience as a fine artist and art educator, having taught across a wide range of ages and abilities. My own artistic practice informs my teaching, and I aim to share not only technical skills but also the creative habits that help young people develop resilience, imagination and problem-solving skills. Parents often tell me that their children become more confident, more expressive and more willing to take creative risks.

Above all, my lessons are engaging, encouraging and enjoyable. I want every student to feel proud of what they create and excited to keep developing their artistic journey.
