## Experience, Qualities, and Teaching Approach
I am currently a PhD researcher in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Leicester, with a Distinction MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from Durham University and a strong background in behavioural research, statistics, and psychology. My research focuses on emotional processing, attention, and how early experiences shape learning and development, and I regularly work with experimental design, data analysis (R, SPSS, MATLAB), and psychometric methods.
Alongside my academic work, I have designed and implemented experimental studies using eye-tracking and behavioural modelling, supported literature reviews and evidence synthesis projects, and worked with vulnerable youth populations in trauma-informed contexts. This means I am especially comfortable helping students who need support with complex concepts, research methods, dissertations, or statistics, as well as psychology and biology at GCSE, A-level, and university level.
My teaching style is structured, supportive, and tailored to the individual student. I focus on:
* Breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable steps
* Building confidence alongside subject knowledge
* Strengthening exam technique and academic writing skills
* Supporting independent thinking rather than memorisation
* Adapting explanations to different learning styles
Having moved from South Africa to the UK for my studies, I personally experienced how challenging it can be to adjust to a new education system, academic expectations, and learning style. That transition gave me a deep appreciation for how capable students can sometimes struggle simply because the structure of teaching feels unfamiliar. I am particularly passionate about supporting students who are adapting to a new curriculum, studying in a second educational culture, or rebuilding confidence in their academic abilities.
Above all, I aim to create a calm, encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their understanding, and achieving their full potential.
