I believe that the best way to learn can be talking through what it is that you are aiming to understand. I am dyslexic myself and think that it can be difficult to find people that are adaptable to what you, as the student, need in order to learn.
I will listen to the student and what they need but I will also try to push them to reach higher than they believe they can go.
I aim to do a mixture of both writing practice, verbal comprehension, and analytical reading.
I encourage all students to read as much as possible because no matter what you are reading it will automatically improve your own writing and comprehension skills. I also encourage students to learn to be patient with themselves as well as read aloud their own work to see where they have made mistakes but also to find parts they are proud of.
Ultimately, I believe all are capable of being brilliant English students but what is often missing is confidence which can be fixed with the right people. No matter if a student is aiming for a level 5 or a level 9 they need to feel confident with their abilities before they will start to see an improvement. I hope I can offer this to students as well as offer the opportunity to learn or train skills they did not necessarily know are there; and hopefully allow for some to find out they have a passion they were unable to see before!
