I completed the Cambridge Celta course where I gained the experience of teaching a group of adults from a number of different countries online. We had a relaxed flow to our class where in which I let the class open with everyone telling a bit of news about their week if they felt comfortable. This got everyone relaxed and ready for our lesson. I would have a topic for the lesson and we would complete a reading/writing/listening activity involving this topic, this would also involve any grammar that needed to be thought or focused on that day. We used the chat-box for things like voting and showing our answers so everybody was involved. I created a visual slideshow with lots of colour, pictures and audio to keep the students attention and better explain the words we were learning. At the end of our lesson I would give the students the opportunity to complete some group work. I found this incredibly beneficial for the students because they were able to discuss our topic and learn things about each other which made coming to class easier because everyone became friends. At this part I was able to resolve any issues any students had with the work also. I would highlight any vocab people were having problems and flag it to work on for our next lesson. My students by the end of the course gained confidence in their English language abilities as well as in themselves through sharing their experiences and cultures.
