About me

I am a native British Sign Language user and a deaf professional with several years of experience working in educational settings. I have supported Deaf learners from early years through to further education, which has given me a strong understanding of different learning styles and needs. I am a native British Sign Language user and a deaf professional with several years of experience working in educational settings. I have supported Deaf learners from early years through to further education, which has given me a strong understanding of different learning styles and needs. I currently hold BSL Level 3 and I am completing my Level 6 qualification, alongside achieving my Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

My teaching style is supportive, practical and focused on building confidence. I understand that learning a visual language can feel challenging at first, so I create a calm and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable practising and asking questions. I plan lessons carefully, ensuring there is a clear structure while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the learner’s pace.

In my sessions, I focus on vocabulary development, sentence structure, receptive skills and conversation practice. I use real life scenarios and interactive activities to help students apply what they learn in meaningful ways. I also include elements of Deaf culture within lessons, as language and culture are closely connected.

Having worked with a wide range of learners, including those with additional needs, I am patient, organised and adaptable. I regularly check understanding and provide constructive feedback so students can clearly see their progress.

My aim is to help learners feel confident, capable and motivated to continue developing their BSL skills. I am committed to continuous professional development and always reflect on my teaching to ensure lessons remain engaging, effective and student focused.
