Frequently asked questions
What does my child need for an online session?
A calculator, pens, and paper (yes - real paper!). Writing things out is an important part of learning Physics and helps students think more clearly, organise their working, and retain ideas.
Do we need a camera and microphone?
Yes. It is important that we can see and hear each other. This allows me to explain ideas clearly, check understanding in real time, and respond immediately if something is not quite clicking - just as I would in person.
How do online sessions work?
Sessions take place via video call using a shared whiteboard and worked examples. Students are encouraged to write, calculate, and talk through their thinking throughout, rather than passively watch.
Is tutoring suitable if my child is struggling?
Absolutely. Many students start tutoring feeling unsure or lacking confidence. Sessions are paced carefully, with key ideas revisited and explained in different ways until they make sense.
Do you set homework?
If helpful, I can suggest short practice tasks or exam-style questions between sessions. This is always optional and tailored to the student's needs, timetable, and workload.
Do you record the sessions?
No. Sessions are not recorded. This helps create a relaxed, focused environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. It also avoids privacy concerns and encourages active participation during the session.
Safeguarding and professionalism
I take safeguarding and professionalism very seriously. I hold an enhanced DBS check and have extensive experience working with young people in both school and university settings. All sessions are conducted in a professional, structured manner, with clear boundaries and appropriate communication at all times.
