We are all different not just in our needs of what to learn, but also in how we learn - so flexibility is key to anything I do. I build programmes around the real needs of my learners, not just as they see them, but also as I see them.
My classes - whether they be in EFL or academic subjects - are always built around the personalised, practical needs of the learner. Prior to commencing any programmes I always invest in an initial skills assessment, that continues throughout the programme, with constant feedback and interaction o all interested stake-holding parties.
I aim to help my learners not just to 'know' the necessary subject-specific information, but more importantly to understand and apply that information to specific tasks. If a learner doesn't understand what they are learning, then that learning will be mere (short-term) memorisation - so it will be quickly forgotten and quite probably misapplied to the task at hand.
I have a lifetime of experience teaching various age groups and skill/subject materials - from 11 year old school children, on through A levels and University undergraduates, through to adults and professionals - across 4 continents: Europe, North America, the Middle East and the Far East. I have worked as a University-level educator, as well as an subject expert at numerous junior/senior high schools, specifically for high-stakes exam preparation.
I am a convinced believer in the role of Academic Certification as an educational end goal, as it provides not just improved learner motivation but also demonstrable proof of that learning pathway. I am a registered examiner for various Cambridge AS/A Level International Exams [English Language, English Literature, History, Global Perspectives], and Pearson EFL.
