I have been a tutor for over seven years, specializing in teaching the English language. Teaching English has been a hobby of mine since my secondary school days as I fielded questions from my own classmates on how to secure excellent marks. Personally, I was from the Normal Academic stream but went on to complete my ‘O’ Levels, scoring A1 in English for both my major examinations. I was also awarded “Top Scorer” for my cohort during my ‘O’ Levels. I then went on to pursue my diploma at Nanyang Polytechnic, majoring in Mass Media Management, where I additionally attained business and media writing skills. I was also awarded the Dean’s List certificate in my first semester. I am currently now in my last year of university at Nanyang Technological University, majoring in English Literature on an Honours track.

At the moment, I am currently coaching four other students for Lower and Upper Secondary English (NA & Express). The average grade improvements of my students depend on their own determination to achieve a good score, however, most of my students see a jump of at least two grades from their previous after at least four months with me. This is because I teach Secondary English in sections within a designated timeframe (e.g. 4 lessons dedicated to teaching Paper 2 Summary), and I adjust the timeframe according to my student’s needs. One of my best achievements was in 2021 where I tutored a new ‘O’ Level student over the span of 12 lessons (weeks before her English ‘O’ Level paper) and managed to pull her up from a D7 to B4. My student was elated as she had never attained such a score before in her life, much less in her ‘O’ Level examinations.

I also have access to a plethora of tuition materials due to my amassment of them over the course of my years as an English tutor. This includes yearly examination papers from the top schools in Singapore ranging from Secondary 1 to 4 and also additional grammar and vocabulary resources sourced by myself. Every worksheet is carefully handpicked by me, after the assessment of my tutee’s needs. I make it a priority to understand my tutee’s strengths and weaknesses, improving on the former and tackling the latter.

I am also a former English curriculum designer for the online educational platform KOCO, specializing in curating and also creating original English primary school content ranging from revision notes, worksheets, and videos.
