With a wealth of experience in teaching primary age children with a variety of different needs (including SEND and SEMH), I’ve developed creative and engaging methods that assist with knowledge retention and application, from visual cues to mnemonics. My lessons are broken down into small steps that can be built upon and developed further depending on the needs of my students. These lessons are balanced and collaborative, where I utilise the seven metacognitive strategies to learning to assist with pupil progress and developing foundations of knowledge to build from.
English lessons will be immersive and allows pupils to fully embody characters, enabling them to actively use the variety skills needed to be excellent readers that progress into excellent writers. High quality literature will be used as a vehicle for exploring and developing these skills too.
We will work in a way that allows you, as the student, to practice the skills you need - starting with me teaching, us working together to complete work and eventually moving onto you working independently to show off those new skills you’ve learnt!
Throughout my lessons (depending on time), I will schedule in moments for brain breaks and opportunities to creatively stretch your skills freely to remind you of the joy that learning can (& should) be!
Depending on whether the lesson is virtual or in person, I will always aim to build my student’s confidence and pride intrinsically to ensure that their success prevails beyond our time together.
Ultimately, as your tutor, I wish to build a working relationship with my pupils that enables me to tailor work to their needs and interests to set them up for success in all areas.
