I have been teaching creative writing to young people for ten years and am confident that I can help improve your writing skills and really make your words jump off the page. I have experience with students from the ages of 5 through to 19. The way I work is to first of all find out about the student and what their hobbies and personal interests are. I firmly believe that everyone can write, but sometimes guidance and encouragement is needed to help students find subjects that will bring them alive and really make the words sing.
I have lots of prose and poetry writing lesson plans whereby we first of all look at a 'model' example and use this as a frame, with simple step by step instructions to help you produce your own work you can be proud of. When it comes to story writing, I can help with structure and literary devices such as simile and metaphor which can really help bring your writing up to the next level. Students are often amazed how, with some simple tools, they can quickly be writing much more powerfully and memorably.
I really love working with young people and helping them to reach their full potential. Writing is for everyone and sometimes lessons at school can be quite dry or demoralising. I always aim to keep my lessons fun and engaging with an intention to produce by the end of each class some new writing, which is what always happens.
