Rebecca Miller

I started teaching German over twenty years ago, initially as a full-time teacher leading to my appointment as Head of Languages at an outstanding school in Watford. I am a fluent in all aspects of German, competent in written and spoken Spanish and fully ICT literate.
After moving to Sussex, I eventually set up my own languages business, which has suited me for the past 10 years, whilst raising my family.

My main motivation is to inspire young people to love languages at an early age by giving them the tools and confidence to be able to converse in the target language. I believe in total immersion and have a very creative approach to my teaching in order to bring languages to life and celebrate different cultures.

All my lessons are taylor-made to suit the pupils I teach; extra support and/ or extension activities are built in. Lessons are interactive and I welcome questions. Mistakes are celebrated, as they lead to deeper understanding of the language.

I have demonstrated an ability to raise attainment against expectation. In my final year teaching at Watford Grammar School for Girls, my A Level students achieved 1 A* grade, 6 A grades, 1 B grade; my latest GCSE results were 11x A*, 6xA, 7xB and 2xC in a mixed ability class; 77% achieved L6 in KS3 against a target of 50% in a previous year.

All observed lessons at Watford Grammar School for Girls were rated as outstanding, due to high expectations, maximum target language usage, careful lesson planning and use of stimulating materials to maximise the potential of all pupils.

I have delivered Inset on “Modelling” to the whole staff as a member of a Teaching and Learning Forum; given a County Inset on “Gifted and Talented’; delivered Oxbridge mentoring; organized German Film Club and debating club for Year 12 & 13 pupils.
