Each lesson, I aim to work on whatever the student feels they need help with, whether it be something from class that week that they haven't quite got the hang of just yet, something they have been struggling with for a while, or even just a variety of questions to boost confidence in maths.
We will start off by looking at the notes and they can point out any areas where they need more explaining in order to understand. Then if they have any exercises from class they want help with, I can give them the right help to aid them to solve the problems, and also to be able to answer them independently in the future. I'll have my own problems too, so we can solve different but similar questions to what they have seen in class to further solidify their understanding of the topics. When completing exercises, I will ask them first how they think they should solve it, and go from there. We will work through the problems together and whenever they are stuck, I'll guide them to get on the right track, and develop skills needed to solve the equations, all whilst encouraging them and making sure to let them know when they are doing well and showing good initiative and comprehension. I try to make the lessons fun and engaging. I want the student to enjoy their time, and look forward to the session each week. It's also really important to me that they feel accomplished at the end of the session, and confident to go back to class the next day with an improved understanding of maths.
